Tagging

Tagging allows prisoners serving between three months and under four years to live outside of the prison providing they adhere to the rules of their curfew, this is designed to help prisoner prepare for life after release, and also reduces greatly the amount of prisoners in the system, of which at the moment is overcrowded.

Assessment
Unless a prisoner is excluded from applying for Electronic Tagging there is no reason why they may not apply. On tagging a prisoner may be releasebetween two weeks and four and a half months before their release date, depending on the length of the sentence. Prisoners normally excluded are those who commited violent or sex offences, and are serving and extended sentence under the Crime and Disorder Act of 1988.
